AgEnRes Stakeholder Workshop: Modelling Pathways for Energy-Resilient Agriculture

AgEnRes Stakeholder Workshop: Modelling Pathways for Energy-Resilient Agriculture
Brussels
-

How could European farms respond to future energy and mineral fertiliser price shocks? Which technologies and policy measures should be tested, and what assumptions should the models use?

AgEnRes is developing a modelling toolbox that connects farm-level, regional, agricultural-market and energy-system models. The toolbox will allow researchers and policymakers to compare scenarios and investigate their possible consequences for different farms, regions and the wider agricultural sector. Before the scenarios and dashboard are finalised, we want to ensure that the toolbox reflects the realities, needs and priorities of the people who may use its results or be affected by the policies it helps assess.

This in-person workshop will therefore bring together a small group of:

  • European, national and regional policymakers
  • Farmers’ organisations and agricultural advisers
  • Agricultural machinery, energy and technology companies
  • Environmental organisations and NGOs
  • Researchers and modellers

Through moderated breakout discussions, participants will help review and improve the assumptions, scenarios, indicators and outputs being developed within AgEnRes.

What will we discuss?

The workshop will focus on selected scenarios concerning:

  • Energy and mineral fertiliser price shocks
  • Short- and long-term responses available to farmers
  • Adoption of energy-saving and renewable-energy technologies
  • Costs, financing, infrastructure and other barriers to adoption
  • Changes in farm structure, production and land use
  • CAP Pillar I direct payments and investment support
  • Environmental, economic and social trade-offs
  • Indicators and results to be presented through the AgEnRes dashboard

Participants will be invited to identify missing mechanisms, propose realistic assumptions and discuss whether the scenarios reflect conditions in farming, policy, industry and environmental practice.

Why participate?

By joining the workshop, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Receive an early introduction to the AgEnRes toolbox and dashboard
  • Propose scenarios and questions relevant to your work
  • Review assumptions before the final modelling exercises are completed
  • Help ensure that farming, environmental, policy and industry perspectives are properly represented
  • Discuss the scenarios directly with stakeholders from across the agricultural and energy sectors
  • Improve the evidence that may support future agricultural, energy and climate policy analysis

The workshop will not present finished forecasts. It is a working session intended to improve the toolbox while its scenarios and outputs are still being developed.

Practical information

*Please note that registration does not automatically guarantee participation. The organisers will confirm attendance by email after reviewing registrations. This helps us ensure balanced representation across policy, farming, industry, environmental and research perspectives.

No presentation or modelling experience is required. Confirmed participants will receive the final agenda and concise background factsheets approximately one week before the workshop.

The exact venue and agenda will be shared once your participation is confirmed.

Travel support & Dietary restrictions

Participation is free and, if travel and/or overnight stay is necessary, AgEnRes can cover related reasonable costs, subject to prior agreement with the organisers. About AgEnRes

AgEnRes is a Horizon Europe project investigating how European agriculture can reduce its dependence on fossil energy and mineral fertilisers while becoming more resilient to input-price fluctuations.

The project combines data, behavioural research and modelling at different scales to support better-informed decisions by farmers, researchers and policymakers.
